When parents of children with disabilities evaluate the possibility of enrolling their children in school or seeking the rehabilitation most congenial to them, they often face a series of highly discriminatory obstacles and impediments that are configured as violations of the right to health, to education. , inclusion and freedoms. A silent drama that many parents have been carrying inside for years and that, despite this, has always found very little space in the press and in public debate.

Every day accidents at work, road and domestic accidents, rare diseases and serious diseases such as cancer and diabetes cause permanent disabilities. Every day the rights of those affected by these events are violated. Every day, social, physical and cultural barriers hinder integration, leading to marginalization.

The only way to put an end to the imprisonment of people with disabilities is to make our cities accessible and usable, build an efficient and guaranteed health system, support scientific research in order to give a name to unknown genetic diseases, free the new and incredible technologies from the drawers of the main research centers so that they become the subject of state programs, functional to improve the quality of life.

In Italy, people with disabilities (children, adolescents and adults) cannot have a regular life, meaning with this adjective the possibility of relating to the outside world: leaving the house is always an adventure: our cities are socially barred. : full of obstacles that prevent their freedoms. But the worst part is that, we all know, such barriers are illegal. In fact, our legislation has been fighting and preventing marginalization for decades.

However, these norms are completely violated and the main causes are to be found in the lack of social and cultural sensitivity on civil liberties and rights. Therefore, faced with a reality that is almost a rule of life for people with disabilities, it has become urgent to implement policies capable of responding effectively to legitimate requests for freedom and that these obvious violations are no longer treated as isolated cases.
